Orphaned after a shipwreck off the Victorian coast of Australia, the spirited Philadelphia Gordon finds both love and adventure aboard a paddle-steamer on the Murray River.
Two years after the birth of their son, Brenton is working at the Echuca redgum mill and dreaming of rebuilding the Philadelphia, and Delie has resumed her old job of coloring postcards. Delie is forced to consider a new career when the couple's fortunes change.
