In the Flemish polders a wandering African girl is found. Her identity is a mystery. Belgian psychiatrist Bert Dewulf is send to the borderland between Flanders and Zeeland in the Netherlands to take care of the girl. In the mean time Tara Dessel, a Dutch police officer of Surinamese origin and new to the area, investigates a shooting on a little ghost ship on the banks of the Westerschelde. Soon it becomes clear, the two cases on both sides of the border are connected.
